As China’s urbanization process continues to deepen, underground pipeline networks are facing an urgent need for a new round of upgrades. Under the dual drive of the “dual-carbon” goals and high-quality urban development, trenchless technology, as a green, efficient, and low-disturbance method for underground space construction, is ushering in unprecedented development opportunities. Against this backdrop, the 2025 2nd Trenchless Technology Innovation and Application Development Conference was grandly held in Tai’an, Shandong, from August 13 to 15. The conference was hosted by Trenchless Technology Magazine, and Hebei Huayuan Science and Industry Co., Ltd., as a co-organizer, participated deeply, bringing together forces from government, industry, academia, research, and application to jointly explore frontier trends and practical paths of trenchless technology.
The conference officially opened on the morning of August 14. More than 300 guests—including government representatives, industry experts, researchers, and technical leaders from enterprises across the country—gathered together to carry out in-depth exchanges on innovation breakthroughs, engineering practice, and industrial integration in trenchless technology. The onsite academic atmosphere was strong, and ideas continued to collide.
As an important supporting organization and a leading enterprise in the industry, Huayuan set up an exhibition area at the venue, showcasing classic project cases and construction technologies from recent key domestic and overseas projects, covering multiple technical directions such as HDD rig introduction, HDD construction cases, and magnetic guidance. The booth attracted a continuous stream of visitors, and many attending representatives stopped to communicate. They highly praised Huayuan’s construction capabilities under complex geological conditions and high environmental requirements. Huayuan’s technical staff provided in-depth explanations on key issues such as project design difficulties, construction process optimization, and risk control, fully demonstrating Huayuan’s technological accumulation and leading position in the trenchless field.
During the highly anticipated invited keynote report session, experts and scholars from across the country shared the latest achievements of trenchless technology in material research, engineering design, intelligent monitoring, and green construction. Bao Xingchao, Technical Manager of Huayuan Creation (Hong Kong), a subsidiary of Hebei Huayuan Science and Industry, delivered a keynote report titled “Case Study on the Installation of Long-Distance HDPE Sewage Pipelines Using Horizontal Directional Drilling Technology.” He systematically introduced the company’s practical exploration in several landmark projects in Hong Kong.
The report focused on typical cases such as the expansion project of the Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Plant, the subsea sewage outfall pipeline project, and the preliminary works for relocating the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Plant into caverns. These projects not only faced multiple challenges such as limited construction space, dense underground pipelines, and complex marine environments, but also needed to meet extremely strict environmental protection and noise control standards in Hong Kong. Bao Xingchao provided a detailed analysis of key links such as technical selection, trajectory design, pullback control, and environmental protection measures. His rigorous engineering logic and innovative solutions sparked wide attention and heated discussion among attendees.
At the awards banquet of the conference, Wang Xiaobing, Executive General Manager of Huayuan Science and Industry, took the stage on behalf of the company to receive the “Co-Organizer” honorary plaque awarded by the organizer. The person in charge of Trenchless Technology Magazine highly affirmed the active contributions made by Huayuan Science and Industry in promoting technical exchange and deep integration among industry, academia, and research, and expressed sincere gratitude for the company’s strong support and deep participation.
