On May 26, 2022, at 01:36, with the successful extraction of the reamer and pull-back pipeline, the Yellow River HDD crossing work for the Ningxia Petrochemical - Yinchuan Hedong Airport aviation kerosene pipeline, undertaken by Huayuan Science and Industry Co., Ltd (hereinafter “Huayuan”), achieved a successful first pull-back, with all operational parameters throughout the process being favorable. This completion marks the perfect conclusion of six directional drilling crossings for the 3rd section of the Ningxia Petrochemical – Yinchuan Hedong Airport Aviation Kerosene Pipeline Project, which was also undertaken by Huayuan.
A celebration ceremony was held at the Yellow River HDD crossing entry point that morning. The event was attended by Chen Jian, Executive Director and Party Secretary of the owner, Ningxia Petrochemical Company; Wei Yong, General Manager; Wang Yonghu, Deputy General Manager and Safety Director of the EPC general contractor CPECC North China Branch; and the project team and crew from Huayuan.
The Ningxia Petrochemical - Yinchuan Hedong Airport Aviation Kerosene Pipeline Project aims to resolve the aviation kerosene supply issue for Hedong Airport, contributing to the airport's infrastructure development. The owner, Ningxia Petrochemical Company, effectively addressed the safety, environmental, and high loss issues associated with road transportation of aviation fuel through the construction of the pipeline, ensuring a long-term, stable, and reliable supply of aviation fuel to Hedong Airport. This will help capture potential market opportunities while laying the foundation for the company's future diesel modification, increased aviation fuel production, and enhanced benefits.
The Yellow River HDD crossing work for the Ningxia Petrochemical - Yinchuan Hedong Airport aviation kerosene pipeline is located between Yongning County and Lingwu City in Yinchuan, with a pipeline specification of φ219mm and a crossing length of 2500m. This is a key project with complex geological strata and significant construction difficulty and risk.
Huayuan deployed the HY-6000D electric drilling rig for this project, using a combination of a 311mm drill bit with 7-5/8 and 8-5/8 drill pipes for the pilot hole. On May 14, the construction of the 2500m pilot hole was completed.
Due to limited site conditions, the project adopted a three-to-one pull-back method, which took a total of 33 hours to complete successfully. The successful completion of this construction task once again confirms the company's mature capabilities in trenchless crossing construction.
